Bio and Recent Experience  

Kevin LaFond found his calling in through humanitarian and search and rescue volunteerism. He has worked with nonprofit organizations for nearly 20 years serving communities across the country in good times and times of disaster, basing out of South Alabama and the Texas Hill Country. During this time Kevin has served in many rolls, from rescuer, to national commander, to spokesperson, but whatever the roll, his focus is always the same; lead by example, help people in times of need and promote the ideals, “lean on each other” and “have joy to give joy”.   

A brief background of the Captains nonprofit work

Foundation Unites

As the founder of Foundation Unites Kevin has brought together his combined experiences under one organization. The foundation encompasses disaster relief and search and rescue but also includes focus on supporting nonprofits dealing with domestic violence, veteran support, and animal rescue. Foundation Unites provides direct help through the foundation while working with partner nonprofits with deep experience in their area specialization. This has a force multiplier effect for those we serve while creating a community of nonprofits working for common goals. 

A Man With No Name

As an early advisor, the Captain has helped establish A Man With No Name side by side with the founders to create a Christian based nonprofit that helps men of all walks of life who are experiencing loneliness and seeking purpose in their lives while helping within their local communities. Current role: Board Member

United Cajun Navy   

Over the course of two years working with UCN Captain Kev accomplished a lot while working directly with the organizations founder. Modernizing the organization, establishing mobile command centers, developing a meteorology and streaming broadcasting system, app development, growing social media following by wide margins, growing donations, and helping with sponsored events on site. These activities took place anytime he was not deployed to command in a disaster area, searching for missing persons, or working with communities. He was also the primary spokes-person and a regular on national and local news during his time with them. 

Non-Profit

VISAR (Virgin Islands Search and Rescue)    

Using his experience as a Captain Kevin spent summers in the Virgin Islands working with VISAR to respond to on water emergencies and hurricanes. Roles: First Responder, Boat / Yacht Captain, SAR, Disaster Relief and Recovery. 

Save The Turtle BVI   

Captain Kev is one of the founders of the only sea turtle conservation program in the British Virgin Islands establishing the conservation nonprofit with the help of BVI local “Gumption” and Sir Richard Branson. Through combined efforts, sea turtle hunting season was reduced by 90%. Current role: Board Member

I.S.P.Y – I Support Positive Youth    

The Captain also founded with “Gumption”, this foundation helps support local youths throughout the West Indies, providing them with after school programs, school support, social and community support programs where there are limited resources.  Current Role: Board Member
